The Power of She
Ladies, let’s have a heart-to-heart. I’ve noticed something that’s been bugging me, and I think it’s time we address it head-on. We make up more than half the population, yet we’re still playing catch-up when it comes to leadership roles. It’s not a lack of ability holding us back—it’s a lack of confidence in our own power.
Another Blow to Women’s Equality at Work: The Trump Administration Is Trying to Weaken a Key Workplace Discrimination Protection
The Trump administration is attempting to weaken one of the nation’s most important workplace discrimination protections—a legal standard that has, for decades, allowed workers to challenge hiring and promotion policies that unfairly exclude qualified people, even when those policies appear neutral on their face.
Decentering Men: What It Actually Means (And Doesn't Mean)
I’m starting a new series of essays on decentering men because this seems to be the single most empowering thing you will ever do as a woman in the current cultural climate. Don’t get me wrong, there are tons of great sources of information out there about decentering men and many of them are really good. I don’t mean to rehash the same things. I’ll just add my own pieces of the puzzle that I think a lot of the discourse around decentering men misses.
The Gender Divide Won’t Be Fixed by Dating Advice
The gender divide isn't fixed by better manners or better dating apps. It starts years before anyone downloads Hinge, while children are still forming ideas about power, fairness, gender, and what love is supposed to look like. Let's start teaching patriarchy in schools.
Why Therapist Erin Barbossa Thinks Women Need Community, Not More Resilience
For decades, women have been praised for their resilience. They juggle careers, raise children, care for aging parents, support partners, and somehow continue showing up for everyone around them. Society applauds their ability to “do it all,” often holding up endurance as the ultimate measure of strength.
Book discussion: Famesick
Titles written by women have dominated the bestseller list this summer, and this week we look at Lena’s Dunham’s memoir, Famesick. To me, what many of these books have in common (including “Yesteryear” by Caro Claire Burke, and “Strangers,” by Belle Burden) is an examination of the caustic effects of gender roles and feminine ideals and expectations for women, and what they extract.
Meet Helina Metaferia: The Artist Who Makes Black and Brown Women Impossible to Overlook
Before becoming murals towering over city streets, interdisciplinary artist Helina Metaferia’s work begins in moments of intimacy; facilitated spaces for women and femmes sharing stories and imagining futures beyond oppression. Her project, By Way of Revolution, transforms those moments of collective care into public monuments, weaving together personal archives, protest histories, and the lived experiences of Black and Brown communities.
Born from the artist’s processing of her mother’s legacy as a Pan-African activist, the series uses performance, workshops, and collage to bridge histories of protest with the lived experiences of today. Central to this project are its subjects, specifically community participants like Nashel Brantley and Karla Cruz, whose own stories of vulnerability and healing anchor the murals.
Six months after By Way of Revolution transformed a Newark streetscape, FEMINIST met with Metaferia to reflect on the project. In our conversation, she explores the relationship between protest archives and personal memory, the trust required to turn vulnerability into public art, and what it means to make Black and Brown women impossible to overlook.
MAGA's Abuser Problem
MAGA voters shrug off abuse allegations against Rep. Max Miller, proving patriarchy prioritizes men's power over women's safety. Meanwhile, anti-abortion extremism surges, showing how deeply misogyny is baked into the GOP platform.

Nara Smith, Lindsay Clancy, Max Miller—and Our National Reckoning on Motherhood
One of the country’s most popular tradwife influencers, Nara Smith, engaged in some top-tier gaslighting last week during an appearance on Call Her Daddy—telling host Alex Cooper she finds it “bizarre” that people would use her as “the poster child for the tradwife movement.” This, from a 24-year-old Mormon mother of 4 who once made a hotdog from scratch after getting off a 10-hour flight because her husband had a hankering.

Women Owned Fashion Brands to Watch in 2026
This is the bitter truth: men still dominate fashion in most major cities. Thankfully, not in Copenhagen or Berlin. 18 of the 26 brands on the official Copenhagen Fashion Week schedule are led by women founders and creative directors – that’s 70% – and the vast majority are also founder-owned. There is no other fashion week like this! Berlin, meanwhile, is well known for kick-starting the careers of young, emerging women designers. These fashion weeks are no longer for underdogs of the fashion world – they are building and shaping a scene that isn’t necessarily sparkly and glamorous, but real, relevant, and reflective of our lives. Here is BUST’s selection of women-led (and owned!) fashion brands from the Copenhagen and Berlin shows that you should definitely keep an eye on in 2026 – so you can proudly say you were watching them from the beginning.

Why Don't Conservative Men Protect Their Own Daughters?
Republican Rep. Max Miller is currently running for reelection in Ohio. His ex-wife, Emily Moreno, has just filed another restraining order against him, after, she says, he laid hands on her lawyer — the person she hired to help protect her from him. Moreno also says that Miller threw boiling water at her, held a gun to her head, and broke their baby’s collarbone. “Daddy’s house is scary” and “Daddy kill you,” her daughter allegedly said.
How Men Can Support the Matriarchy Movement
Imagine a world where women’s leadership is not just celebrated but expected, where their voices shape policies, cultures, and communities without resistance or doubt. This isn’t a fantasy—it’s a matriarchy, and it’s closer than you think. But here’s the thing, sisters: we can’t do it alone. So let’s talk about how men can support this movement because, after all, it takes a village to raise a revolution.

The term “surveillance state” used to evoke images of clandestine government agencies using listening devices and stoking public paranoia. Now, the surveillance van has been replaced by the phones in our pockets and even the accessories on our bodies. This is the technological surveillance state. It’s personalized, prolific, and conditioning us into a culture of passivity about its encroaching reach.

What Fierce Aging Really Means in 2026
For decades, the beauty industry has framed aging as a problem to solve. Wrinkles were described as imperfections to smooth away, grey hair as something to cover, and mature skin as a condition requiring correction. The language of “anti-aging” became so deeply embedded in cosmetics marketing that it shaped not only the products consumers bought, but also expectations about what beauty should look like at different stages of life.

She Runs the Show: How Doreen Sayegh Kept a 99-Year-Old Movie Theater Alive
In the third week of the COVID lockdown, Doreen Sayegh started selling popcorn out the front door of her movie theater. She called it Concessions on the Go. Families pulled up to the curb of the Cranford Theater in Cranford, New Jersey, and she handed them fresh popcorn, candy, and their favorite movie snacks through the door. They took it home and ate it on their couches during the umpteenth week of not being allowed to leave the house. Then Doreen rented a parking lot and turned it into a drive-in.

Funny Women Built This: Inside The Daily Show’s Feminist Legacy, from Smithberg and Winstead to Grace Kuhlenschmidt
The Daily Show has been one of those big institutions of American comedy since its debut in 1996. Much like its comedic counterparts Saturday Night Live and the ever popular Late Night franchises, The Daily Show has been bolstering careers in comedy and offering some of the most sharp political satire for nearly 30 years. What sets The Daily Show apart from other late night programs, however, is the fact that it was in part created by women and continues to keep female voices at the center of the show. Madeleine Smithberg and Lizz Winstead, co-creators of The Daily Show, are comedians whose perspectives helped shape its early voice and direction. Part of the ongoing legacy of The Daily Show is how the program often finds ways to bring in fresh voices that represent the ever-shifting landscape of comedy. Its ‘correspondents’, a position which has launched the careers of comedians such as Stephen Colbert, Jessica Williams, Hasan Minhaj, John Oliver, and Samantha Bee, serve not as a side bar and instead are considered to be key pillars of the show. To quote that famous line from My Big Fat Greek Wedding, if Jon Stewart is the head, then the correspondents are the neck.
